About This Beacon
The need to swiftly and accurately locate downed offshore aircraft has long been a critical challenge faced by search and rescue (SAR) teams. The Techtest deployable Crash Position Indicator (CPI) overcomes this challenge. The CPI is a certified Automatically Deployable Emergency Locator Transmitter (ADELT) operating with the Cospas-Sarsat satellite system to transmit the 406 MHz distress frequency and GPS coordinates of downed aircraft. This ensures rapid and precise identification of accident sites by the authorities, reducing recovery time.
The 503-16 CPI stands out for its comprehensive deployment options, encompassing manual activation, automatic G-sensor activation and automatic water switch deployment. Additionally, in the event of tail boom break, Beacon Deploy Control (BDC) units provide further redundancy, providing maximum scenario coverage.

Activation
- Pilot activation via a cockpit control panel.
- The SIU detects considerable changes in pre-programmed parameters and deploys the CPI beacon.
- In the case of water ingress, the switch detects this and will deploy the CPI beacon.
- Impact of an external switch on the aircraft will deploy the CPI beacon.
- In the event of the tail boom breaking off from the aircraft, the BDC will detect a break in the circuit loop and automatically deploy the CPI beacon.

Activation
Offering five methods of deployment:
- Manual – Pilot activation via a cockpit control panel.
- G Switch – The SIU detects considerable changes in pre-programmed parameters and deploys the CPI beacon.
- Water switch – In the case of water ingress, the switch detects this and will deploy the beacon. This is the final trigger for deployment.
- Frangible (Crush) Switch – Impact of an external switch on the aircraft will deploy the CPI Beacon.
- Hold Off Loop – In the event of the tail boom breaking off from the aircraft, the BDC will detect a break in the circuit loop and automatically deploy the CPI beacon.
