With such concerns the FAA and EASA have taken the steps to protect both passengers and flight crew by implementing a series of special conditions which must be met for aviation devices, which contain non-rechargeable Lithium batteries. These are relevant to any new aircraft or any aircraft that is being modified from its type certificate. Retrofit is not currently required. The new Techtest 500-32 series offers a simple solution to the FAA and EASA regulations (RTCA D0-227a). Our battery pack ensures containment of flame and debris in the case of accidental ignition, preventing a fire from breaking out, without dramatically altering product size. The 500-32 series is now the smallest survival ELT with embedded GPS on the market, suitable for all commercial and civil aircraft. More forward thinking from HR Smith.
