DESIGN ENGINEERING PRODUCTION MANAGER – ROTHERWAS, HEREFORD
Chunc Limited is a family run business and forms part of the HR Smith Group. We design, develop and manufacture a range of manual attendant controlled wheelchairs in our factory based in Hereford. We offer indoor and outdoor mobility solutions for children and young adults with moderate to profound disabilities. Our highly adaptable chair designs are able to accommodate complex postural needs.

Being part of the HR Smith Group, Chunc is able to work alongside our aerospace manufacturing teams, drawing on their extensive engineering experience and machine and mould shop facilities. We pride ourselves on producing user friendly, stylish and highly adaptable seating solutions.
Currently we are looking for a Mechanical Design Engineer that can also oversee the production department at Chunc Wheelchairs, you will be responsible for creating new designs and updating existing product range.
Key Responsibilities
- To Plan Chunc production activity and ensure plans are met.
- To run the production MRP and set min max quantities of new and existing piece parts required for production.
- To liaise with the mould shop and machine shop managers and establish route cards and maintain sensible amounts of stock.
- To liaise with TD Buyer to obtain bought in components.
- To manage resources for the design and manufacturing department.
- To oversee training of staff and update training records in line with company procedures.
- To have an understanding of factory master.
- To write, modify and adhere to company workshop practices.
- To liaise with the stores person to maintain sensible amounts of stock for production needs.
- To conduct staff appraisals.
- Producing design briefs for new products.
- Checking design and concept meets required British Standard.
- To produce design concepts, 3D models and prototypes for all new products.
- Updating and improving existing product range.
- To produce and oversee the design, development and manufacture of all jigs and fixtures.
- To manage the production handover phase of new and improved products and accessories.
- To originate Change Notes, Modification Notices and all other project management paperwork.
- To conduct Design Review Meetings as required.
- To compile the update of all technical manuals.
- Provide test/verification plans.
- To assist the Quality Department with design issues.
- Produce cost analysis for all new products and costings.
- To assist the quality department in the continued compliance to ISO 13485.
Essential Skills, Qualifications and Experience:
- Experience in similar role with knowledge of design concept through to producing production drawings and documentation.
- Proven working experience in mechanical engineering/design role.
- Understanding of ISO 13485 is an advantage.
- Understanding of materials and manufacturing techniques.
- Competent with 3D Solidworks CAD Software.
- Qualification in an engineering related field E.G Apprenticeship, HNC, HND or degree.

- Hours are based on a 40-hour week, Monday to Friday 8.00am to 4.30pm with half an hour each day for lunch. No weekend, evening or bank holiday working.
